A new consortium, Leading Minds, has been established by a group of additive manufacturing specialists to address the major hurdles manufacturers face when adopting and scaling 3D printing technology. The founding members of the consortium include industry leaders such as Ansys, EOS, HP, Materialise, Nikon SLM, Renishaw, Stratasys, and Trumpf.

In its initial press release, the group highlighted a recent survey showing that 98% of companies encounter significant challenges with 3D printing adoption. These challenges include a lack of expertise, perceived high costs, and difficulties in integrating the technology with existing manufacturing processes. The consortium’s primary goal is to eliminate these barriers, making 3D printing more accessible and effective for manufacturers.

One of the first objectives of Leading Minds is to address the fragmentation and complexity of industry terminology. Currently, various companies and technology providers use different terms for similar concepts, which can hinder collaboration. The group plans to develop a standardized language framework to improve communication within the industry, enabling better collaboration between manufacturers and technology providers.

Leading Minds aims to reshape the future of manufacturing by leveraging the transformative power of 3D printing. The consortium will focus on improving production efficiency, reducing waste, and enabling more responsive supply chains. Through these initiatives, the group intends to create a more adaptable, sustainable, and versatile manufacturing ecosystem.
