Mate Precision Technologies has announced a leadership transition with the retirement of Kevin Nicholson after 19 years as president and the appointment of Joe Schneider as his successor. This change marks the start of a new chapter for the company, which has built its reputation as a trusted provider of innovative tooling solutions for metalcutting and metal forming industries worldwide.

Schneider brings more than three decades of experience at Mate, offering deep knowledge of both the company and the markets it serves. Joining Mate GmbH, the company’s German subsidiary, in 1994, he gained valuable international experience before returning to the United States in 1996. Over the years, Schneider has held a series of leadership roles across engineering, management, and marketing, culminating in his appointment as vice president of marketing in 2006. In this role, he was instrumental in driving product development initiatives and spearheading numerous product launches that elevated the company’s global brand.

Schneider holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Minnesota, equipping him with both the technical expertise and business acumen needed to lead Mate into its next phase of growth. His leadership style is strongly focused on aligning business strategy with customer needs, ensuring that Mate continues to deliver solutions that combine innovation, quality, and service.

Dean Sundquist, chairman and CEO of Mate, emphasized the continuity and commitment that Schneider brings to his new role. “What’s not changing is Mate’s dedication to providing innovative products and outstanding service. Our customers count on us to provide strong in-field technical support in the industry, and Joe will continue this tradition,” Sundquist said. He added, “We’re excited about the future and look forward to a fresh perspective with Joe Schneider as the new president. His many years of experience will help Mate continue to grow our existing product lines and pursue other opportunities in the metal cutting and metal forming industries.”

The transition comes at a time when Mate is building on its legacy of nearly six decades in the tooling industry. Known for its precision tooling systems for CNC punch presses, press brakes, and laser cutting machines, the company has expanded into metal forming solutions while continuing to prioritize technical expertise and customer service. With Schneider’s appointment, Mate signals its intent to strengthen its global presence, further expand its product portfolio, and maintain its strong customer-centric approach.

Schneider’s vision for the company includes not only reinforcing its leadership in existing markets but also exploring new growth avenues through technology-driven innovations. His background in marketing and product development positions him to identify emerging opportunities and translate them into solutions that meet evolving customer requirements.

The retirement of Nicholson, who guided Mate through nearly two decades of steady growth, closes an important chapter in the company’s history. At the same time, Schneider’s appointment ushers in a new era that promises continuity, stability, and renewed momentum for the business. With its strong foundation and Schneider at the helm, Mate Precision Technologies is well-positioned to continue shaping the future of metalcutting and forming solutions.
