Jindal Stainless Supplies Stainless Steel for Bangalore Metro Phase 2 Expansion!
By Ashutosh Arora
Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer, has supplied its high-performance 301N austenitic stainless steel for the Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project, marking yet another milestone in its contribution to India’s modern urban transport infrastructure. The newly inaugurated Yellow Line, part of this expansion, was formally launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, further underscoring the strategic importance of this development in easing Bengaluru’s growing urban mobility needs.
Earlier this August, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) inducted three trainsets manufactured by the CRRC–Titagarh Consortium into service under Phase 2 operations. The full project will see the delivery of 53 trainsets, making it one of the largest expansions of metro services in the country. To date, Jindal Stainless has already supplied 1,031 metric tonnes of 301N stainless steel, with additional deliveries scheduled as the project advances.
The stainless steel supplied by Jindal is being utilized in metro coach roofs and structural components, where durability and safety are paramount. The 301N grade is renowned for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, high corrosion resistance, fire and crash safety features, and a lower carbon footprint. These attributes make it an ideal choice for sustainable, high-performance public transportation systems designed to withstand heavy usage and variable climatic conditions.
Commenting on this milestone, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, stated: “We are proud to support the modernisation of India’s metro infrastructure, a vital pillar of urban mobility and sustainable development. The use of 301N stainless steel enhances safety, longevity, and environmental responsibility, aligning with the vision of building resilient transport systems. Through our contribution to the Bangalore Metro, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable urban mobility in India.”
Jindal Stainless has built a strong legacy in partnering with major metro and railway projects, both domestically and globally. Internationally, it has supplied stainless steel through Alstom India for metro projects in Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney, while in India, its contributions span almost every modern metro system, including the Kolkata underwater metro, Mumbai Metro, Vande Bharat sleeper trains, Vande Metro, and India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Since 1998, Jindal Stainless has also been a trusted supplier to Indian Railways, providing material for wagons, coaches, and core infrastructure.
With a turnover of INR 40,182 crore (USD 4.75 billion) in FY25, Jindal Stainless continues to expand aggressively, targeting an increase in production capacity to 4.2 million tonnes annually by FY27. The company operates 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities across India, Spain, and Indonesia and maintains a strong global footprint across 12 countries. Its extensive product portfolio includes slabs, coils, plates, sheets, strips, wire rods, rebars, blade steel, and coin blanks, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most versatile and reliable stainless steel producers.
Through this latest contribution to the Bangalore Metro Phase 2, Jindal Stainless has once again demonstrated its leadership in supporting sustainable, future-ready transport systems, positioning itself at the forefront of India’s urban mobility revolution.
