Rowan takes us to Prima Power to explore their brand-new Powder Bed Fusion 3D printer. Prima Power has two technologies in their additive manufacturing space, powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition (DED). Barry explains the difference between the two technologies, highlighting that powder bed fusion can help with creating complex pieces in one process whereas with DED, you don’t need to build the whole part again but simply recycle broken pieces and re-add them onto the existing damaged part. Machining a new part can potentially cost thousands of pounds while repairing is cost-effective and gives the same results in terms of a finished product. Barry offers some great advice for machine shops in the UK that might need some type of powder bed fusion application, allowing manufacturers to keep their machining times and material waste to a minimum. Find out more in the full video and learn about the biggest advantage of these technologies for companies that produce high-value aerospace, nuclear, vessel, and press tool components.
