Mazak Corporation, one of the world’s leading machine tool builders, has marked a major production milestone with the completion of its 40,000th machine at its iSmart Factory™ in Florence, Kentucky. Since opening its North American operations in 1974, Mazak has been at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, continuously evolving its technology, operations, and support infrastructure to meet the needs of modern industry.

Mazak’s Florence campus spans more than 518,000 square feet and serves as the hub for U.S. manufacturing technology R\&D. The facility is designated as a Mazak iSmart Factory™, a model of digital integration and advanced process control. The factory combines state-of-the-art manufacturing cells, automation systems, and data-driven monitoring tools to create a connected environment that optimizes efficiency, traceability, and flexibility.

The facility produces a wide range of machines, including:

  • Quick Turn series turning centers
  • VTC series vertical machining centers
  • Ez series turning and milling machines
  • Advanced multitasking Done-in-One machines
  • Three-, four-, and five-axis machining centers
  • Swiss-style turning machines
  • Hybrid manufacturing solutions, such as hot wire deposition and friction stir welding systems

By manufacturing close to its North American customers, Mazak provides faster delivery, stronger support, and tailored solutions that directly address regional industry requirements.

Mazak has long been recognized for introducing breakthrough concepts, from the Done-in-One multitasking platform to automation-driven digital manufacturing solutions. A cornerstone of this innovation is the company’s CNC technology. Since the launch of the Mazatrol T1 conversational CNC in 1981, Mazak has developed more than 10 generations of CNC systems. The latest Mazatrol Smooth Technology integrates AI-driven machine learning, monitoring, and predictive functions, giving manufacturers smarter control, faster setups, and higher productivity.

Beyond machine production, Mazak’s Kentucky campus is also home to its spindle repair and rebuild department. With turnaround times as quick as three to five days, the department services and remanufactures spindles from across Mazak’s product history—including models dating back to the 1970s. This commitment ensures that customers maintain high uptime and maximize the return on their equipment investments.

Looking ahead, Mazak is expanding its service and application support footprint with the planned opening of a new Technical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Scheduled to open later this year, the Phoenix Technical Center will strengthen Mazak’s presence in the Western U.S. and provide local manufacturers with:

  • Process and application engineering expertise
  • Hands-on training and customer programming classes
  • Machine demonstrations, test cuts, and system run-offs
  • A venue for Mazak Discover events and customer collaboration

According to Dan Janka, President of Mazak Corp., the new center will focus on supporting the region’s vital industries, including semiconductors, aerospace and defense, electronics, and other advanced manufacturing sectors.

The Phoenix Technical Center will become Mazak’s sixth technical center in North America, complementing its network of eight technology centers. Together, these facilities ensure that customers across the continent receive localized service, engineering expertise, and direct access to Mazak’s latest innovations.

By celebrating a major production milestone while simultaneously investing in expanded support infrastructure, Mazak demonstrates its dual commitment to pioneering manufacturing technology and providing world-class service to its growing customer base.
