Monday 24 July 2017, 12:00:00 AM

Steel giant Liberty has agreed yet another acquisition that has in the process saved up to 550 jobs. As the growing industrial business continues its non-stop spending spree, the privately held group has agreed to buy Amtek out of administration.

The automotive industry engine and component manufacturer has plants in Essex and the West Midlands supplying car manufacturers in the UK and Europe. The deal to rescue Amtek will safeguard 550 jobs that specialise in the manufacture of cast aluminium engine and vehicle parts.

Liberty House has bought the trade and assets of Amtek Aluminium Castings (Witham) Limited and King Automotive Systems Limited (Amtek UK), for an undisclosed sum from administrators PwC. The business undertakes a range of complex processes including machining, assembly and testing of parts used in engines and powertrain components. Almost all of its products go directly to leading vehicle manufacturers in the UK and EU.
