Hyliion Holdings Corp., a leader in clean energy solutions, has announced installing an M Line metal additive manufacturing system from Colibrium Additive to enhance production of its KARNO generator. This move marks a significant milestone as Hyliion becomes the first U.S. company to adopt the advanced M Line system, with additional units scheduled for delivery throughout the year.

The M Line system features a modular design that separates laser processing from material handling, enabling streamlined operations, reduced production times, and optimized manufacturing workflows. This cutting-edge capability makes the M Line ideal for producing the KARNO generator’s intricate components, many of which feature complex geometries achievable only with additive manufacturing.

“We are proud to support Hyliion with our M Line technology,” said Chris Schuppe, CTO of Colibrium Additive. “This system is engineered to drive efficiency and scalability, perfectly aligning with Hyliion’s vision for full-scale production of the KARNO generator.”

The KARNO generator, designed to generate electricity from over 20 fuel sources, exemplifies Hyliion’s innovative approach to thermal and power systems engineering. With the M Line system, Hyliion can now produce two to four times more parts per machine, significantly boosting manufacturing capacity and enabling the company to meet growing demand in 2025 and beyond.

“The M Line systems are a pivotal advancement in Hyliion’s journey to scale manufacturing,” said Thomas Healy, Founder and CEO of Hyliion. “This technology enhances our ability to meet increasing demand for the KARNO generator while maintaining the precision and quality that our customers expect.”

Hyliion’s adoption of the M Line system comes on the heels of its announcement to integrate KARNO technology into its Hypertruck powertrain platform—a solution designed to deliver next-generation, fuel-agnostic semi-trucks. Originally acquired from GE Additive before its rebrand to Colibrium Additive, the technology underscores Hyliion’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

By leveraging advanced additive manufacturing, Hyliion is not only accelerating the KARNO generator’s production but also paving the way for clean and efficient energy solutions that meet the evolving needs of the transportation industry.
