Monday 5 February 2018, 12:00:00 AM

Leading Birmingham civil and structural engineering consultancy CWA Ltd has been appointed to deliver the civil and structural engineering work for a £130 million engineering facility for an international aerospace and defence group.

CWA will work on the project to bring 1,000 employees of the Meggitt Group together on a single site on Ansty Park, Coventry, which is already home to the Manufacturing Technology Centre, the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, and London Taxi Company.

The land is currently owned by Rolls-Royce. Leading property development companies Opus Land and Manse, backed by London-based Palmer Capital, have combined to lead the promotion and regeneration of the site. Known as Prospero, Ansty, the site has the potential to produce more than 2,000,000 sq ft of industrial, manufacturing and office accommodation.

The 440,000 Meggitt facility, due for completion at the end of 2019, will bring together a number of the global company's operations including an engineering and manufacturing centre for aerospace thermal management technology, aircraft braking systems and control systems. It will also house  customer services and support and corporate shared services. It will be a base for up to 1,000 employees.

CWA director Steve Wedge said the company was delighted to be involved in such a major manufacturing and engineering project which would complement the cutting edge work already being carried out on Ansty Park.

"We know Ansty Park well, having been involved in the civil and structural engineering work for the London Taxi Company's new manufacturing facility. It's good news for the region that an international company like Meggitt is expanding into Coventry with cutting-edge research and development, engineering and manufacturing innovation," he said.

David Mitchell and Richard Smith of Manse Opus said, "We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this hugely important move for Meggitt and their choice to come to Prospero, Ansty. We look forward to delivering what must be one of the largest new manufacturing facilities in the UK for a number of years. We believe that this is the first deal of many more to come from businesses that recognise the importance of this location."

Birmingham city centre-based CWA is one of the regions' leading civil and structural engineering and design consultancies, providing services to a wide range of high-value projects to blue chip clients nationwide.
