Chiron has historically been recognised for its compact, high speed, high productivity machine tools such as the DZ and FZ series. However, the Chiron brand available in the UK from the Engineering Technology Group (ETG) offers so much more, as MTDCNC recently found out on a study tour to Germany.
During the recent study tour, ETG’s Head of Sales, Mr Steve Brown tells MTDCNC: “Chiron has a complete Mill series that covers everything from a 3-axis to a full 5-axis variant. Here we have a four axis variant with an X, Y and Z axes with a fourth axis integrated rotary unit in the table.”
Alluding to the speed that Chiron is renowned for, Mr Brown says: “Chiron won’t lose sight of these attributes through any of its product range regardless of size or configuration, even when we go up to a 6m variant. The 4-axis machine here has a fixed head but we can also supply the machine with a 5-axis head as well. These machines are all about the chip-to-chip time and the cost of the parts. To enable the fast chip-to-chip time the tool carousel follows the machine spindle and this gives these machines a tool change time of less than 1 second.”
With regards to stability at high-speed, Mr Brown says: “These machines are built on a solid concrete base, so the stability is exceptional. In this particular facility, Chiron has shipped over 260 machines and each machine is a turnkey project for the end user. The machines are available in 2, 3, 4 and 6m variants, so we have something for all types of machine shop and application.”
