Montra Electric has inaugurated its state-of-the-art electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward sustainable freight mobility. The facility combines advanced automation, robotics, and full Industry 4.0 digital practices, establishing Montra Electric as a pioneer in the next generation of electric logistics solutions.

One of the defining features of this new facility is India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit, reflecting Montra Electric’s commitment to gender inclusivity and empowerment in the electric mobility sector. Alongside this, the factory integrates automated guided vehicles (AGVs) with conveyor systems to streamline eHCV production, setting new benchmarks for efficiency and innovation in heavy vehicle manufacturing.

The factory occupies 255,000 square feet of land with a built-up area of 150,000 square feet. Initial production capacity is set at 6,000 units annually on a two-shift basis, expandable to 7,500 units per year with the addition of more shifts. Designed with flexibility in mind, the facility can adapt to produce multiple product lines, including the flagship Rhino EV series and future models. This modular approach ensures scalability and responsiveness to evolving market demands.

At the heart of the plant’s capabilities lies its 1.7 GWh in-house battery pack assembly line, supported by extensive testing infrastructure. The facility houses advanced E&E (Electricals and Electronics) labs, quality assurance labs, battery pack cyclers, roll and brake testers, wheel alignment systems, headlamp aiming stations, and shower testing equipment. It also includes R&D and prototype workshops to accelerate the development of next-generation EV technologies. By sourcing 74% of components locally—excluding imported cells—Montra Electric reinforces its focus on localisation and supply chain resilience, reducing dependency on imports while supporting the Indian manufacturing ecosystem.

Sustainability is embedded into the factory’s design. Provisions for battery recycling, waste management, and on-site charging infrastructure highlight the company’s commitment to green practices. Looking ahead, Montra Electric plans to incorporate renewable energy into the facility’s operations. The company is also launching skilling programs and environmental initiatives such as tree plantation drives to engage and uplift the local community.

P.V. Satyanarayana, Chief Business Officer of Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), described the opening as a watershed moment for Indian logistics. “The inauguration of our EV truck factory in Manesar marks a defining step in India’s transition to sustainable logistics. This state-of-the-art facility combines scale, flexibility, and world-class quality with modular lines capable of producing multiple variants and advanced digital manufacturing tools. By fostering inclusivity through our all-women battery line and driving high localisation, we are setting new benchmarks for innovation, employment, and green mobility. We are confident this factory will emerge as a hub that powers the future of mobility in India for years to come.”

The launch of the Manesar facility positions Montra Electric at the forefront of India’s electrification journey in freight and logistics. By combining advanced automation, inclusive employment practices, local sourcing, and sustainability measures, Montra Electric is not only strengthening its leadership in the eHCV segment but also contributing to the broader vision of a cleaner, greener, and more resilient transportation ecosystem in India.
