GE Aerospace Invests US$14 Million to Expand Pune Manufacturing Facility!
By Ashutosh Arora
GE Aerospace has announced a fresh investment of US$14 million to expand its advanced manufacturing facility in Pune, marking ten years of successful operations in India. This follows last year’s US$30 million boost and reflects the company’s continued commitment to strengthening its production capabilities, enhancing automation, and supporting the country’s growing aerospace ecosystem.
The latest investment is focused on upgrading manufacturing processes and expanding automation systems to support the production of advanced commercial jet engine components. Over the past decade, the Pune facility has evolved from a multi-business manufacturing site into a specialised high-tech hub supplying precision aerospace parts for GE’s global engine programmes.
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace’s Pune facility, highlighted that the site’s progress has been made possible through strong collaboration with a nationwide network of suppliers and the dedication of a skilled workforce. He emphasised that the new investment aligns with the Make in India initiative and strengthens India’s positioning in global aerospace manufacturing.
Today, the facility works with more than 300 suppliers, forming part of a larger group of 2,200 suppliers across India. Over the years, GE Aerospace has also trained more than 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing, helping build a robust talent pipeline for the aerospace sector.
The Pune plant’s reputation for operational excellence is reinforced by its ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, which reflect adherence to global standards in environmental management and occupational safety. A key driver behind the plant’s performance is GE’s proprietary FLIGHT DECK lean operating model. This system places strong emphasis on safety, quality, and efficiency, resulting in reduced waste, improved workflows, and consistent increases in productivity. The model has also contributed to shorter lead times and minimal downtime on recently launched production lines for critical engine components.
With this expansion, GE Aerospace is positioning its Pune facility as a long-term cornerstone of its global manufacturing network. The investment underscores the company’s confidence in India’s engineering talent, supplier capabilities, and growing role in the international aerospace supply chain.
