Big Daishowa Angle Head Enhances Productivity, Chip Removal!
By Ashutosh Arora
Big Daishowa Inc., a leading name in precision tooling and workholding solutions, has expanded its lineup of fixed 90-degree angle heads with the introduction of the TAG90 center-through-coolant angle head and the AG35 high-pressure coolant adapters. This addition marks a significant enhancement in the company’s offering, delivering improved productivity, cooling efficiency, chip evacuation, and machining accuracy for complex applications across industries such as aerospace, automotive, and defense.
The TAG90 center-through-coolant angle head is designed to deliver coolant directly from the machine spindle to the cutting edge, eliminating the need for a stop block. This direct delivery system optimizes cooling and ensures more effective chip evacuation, especially critical when working with hard-to-machine materials. Capable of handling coolant pressures up to 1,000 psi, the new design improves tool life and machining stability while helping operators achieve higher precision in demanding applications.
Customers have the option to choose between two types of angle heads to suit different machining environments. The Build-Up-type angle head allows operators to change the adapter for various applications, providing greater flexibility. This type integrates the AG35 high-pressure coolant adapters, including options such as the New Baby Chuck and Side Lock adapter types. Alternatively, the HMC-type angle head features a high-rigidity milling chuck, ideal for applications that demand greater stability and strength. By offering these choices, Big Daishowa enables manufacturers to tailor their tooling to specific production needs without compromising on performance.
A major advantage of the TAG90 and the broader Big Daishowa angle head lineup is the ability to perform vertical and horizontal operations on a single machine setup. This feature allows machinists to access difficult-to-reach areas of a workpiece without the need for repositioning or multiple setups. By consolidating operations, shops can reduce cycle times, improve accuracy, and minimize the risk of errors associated with repeated part handling. These improvements not only boost productivity but also help lower manufacturing costs by streamlining workflows.
According to Alan Miller, senior manager of engineering at Big Daishowa, the new TAG90 angle heads are particularly well-suited for industries such as aerospace, defense, and automotive, where manufacturers increasingly work with large and complex parts. These sectors require advanced solutions to handle challenging materials while maintaining efficiency and quality. By addressing critical issues such as chip evacuation and cooling efficiency, the TAG90 provides operators with the tools needed to meet stringent industry standards and production goals.
The addition of the TAG90 and AG35 adapters reflects Big Daishowa’s ongoing commitment to innovation and problem-solving in machining technology. As the demands of modern manufacturing continue to grow, solutions that enable faster setups, higher precision, and better process reliability become indispensable. With this latest expansion, Big Daishowa is helping manufacturers take a step forward in optimizing operations, improving tool performance, and ensuring consistent results across a wide range of machining environments.
