As part of the Langley Alloys group, Offshore Stainless & Alloys Ltd has partnered with Marcegaglia Sheffield to stock PRODEC® enhanced stainless bar across its full 316, 304 and 303 range. In a significant commitment to its customer base, all stainless round bar and cold drawn bar are now PRODEC® grade as standard – available direct from UK stock, with short lead times.
For UK CNC machinists and engineers who specify stainless bar, two things matter above almost everything else: reliable supply and total cost per machined part. Offshore Stainless & Alloys is now delivering on both.
The company, now part of the Langley Alloys group following its acquisition in early 2026, has become a dedicated UK stockholder of PRODEC® stainless bar in partnership with Marcegaglia Sheffield. Standard round bar is held from 10mm to 180mm in diameter; cold-drawn bar from 7.925mm to 100mm. Importantly, this is not a parallel offering – 316, 304 and 303 supplied by Offshore Stainless & Alloys, in both product forms, are PRODEC® grade as standard.
What is PRODEC®?
PRODEC® (PRODuction EConomy) is Marcegaglia’s enhanced-machinability grade of stainless-steel bar, engineered to reduce the cost and complexity of producing machined components. Standard austenitic stainless steels are well known among machinists for their poor thermal conductivity, tendency to work-harden under the tool, and hard oxide inclusions that accelerate tool wear. PRODEC® addresses these characteristics at source.
Through tightly controlled chemistries and a manufacturing process that manages the composition, size, shape and distribution of non-metallic inclusions, PRODEC® transforms inclusions from a source of tool damage into a neutral or even beneficial factor in the cutting process. The tool remains sharper for longer, even under demanding conditions.
The performance gain is substantial and independently validated. Latest comparative V15 machining trials confirm that PRODEC® delivers:
– +20% Cutting Speed on 316L versus top European competitors
– +13% Cutting Speed on 304L versus top European competitors
– +159% Longer Tool Life compared to the lowest European test result
In practical terms, that translates directly into faster cycle times, fewer tool changes, more consistent part quality, and a meaningfully lower total cost per machined component – whether you’re turning valve bodies, flanges, pump shafts, fasteners, pressure fittings, or precision parts for process equipment.

No Compromise on Corrosion Resistance
Historically, improved machinability in stainless steel has come with a trade-off: reduced corrosion resistance. PRODEC® challenges that assumption. It maintains corrosion resistance within the range typically expected of standard 316L, including superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments, making it the natural choice for marine, chemical processing and food-grade applications.
PRODEC® 316/316L is commonly dual-certified to both 316 and 316L, meeting the lower carbon requirement of 316L while also meeting the slightly higher strength specification of 316. For fabricators, the material is compatible with all conventional welding procedures except oxyacetylene, using AWS E316L/ER316L or other low-carbon filler metals with molybdenum content exceeding that of the base metal.
Made in Sheffield: That Now Matters More Than Ever
Offshore Stainless & Alloys’ PRODEC® is manufactured by Marcegaglia at its Sheffield facility. From July 2026, this becomes a significant commercial advantage for UK buyers.
The UK’s new steel trade measure, which takes effect on that date, cuts import quotas for stainless bar by 60% and imposes a 50% tariff on above-quota imports . The scope of the measure has been explicitly expanded to include stainless and cold finished bars. For businesses sourcing stainless steel bar from overseas, this represents a material change to procurement economics.

Cold Drawn Expertise, Now Extended to Round Bar
Offshore Stainless & Alloys has built its reputation as the UK’s trusted manufacturer and stockholder of cold-drawn stainless bar, a position reinforced by its NORSOK accreditation and more than 25 years’ precision cold drawing.
That expertise now extends across its full PRODEC® range. All three grades are available cold drawn in round, hexagonal, flat and square bar sections, with cold drawn round bar available from 7.925mm to 100mm diameter and hexagonal bar from 10 to 55mm A/F. A peeled or ground finish is available across the range. For round bar not requiring cold drawing, PRODEC® is available from 10mm to 180mm diameter.
Cold drawn PRODEC® 316/316L and 304/304L is produced to the following standards:
– A4-70 / A4-80 / A4-100 (316/316L) and A2-70 / A2-80 / A2-100 (304/304L)
– ASTM A193/A320 B8M Class 2, 2B and 2C, BS 4882, B8MX (316/316L)
– ASTM A193/A320 B8 Class 2, 2B, BS 4882, B8X (304/304L)
– 316L conforming to NACE MR0175
303 grade cold drawn is available to customer specifications.
