Greenply Industries Opens New Manufacturing Plant in Odisha!
By Ashutosh Arora
Greenply Industries, one of India’s leading interior infrastructure companies, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Semiliguda, Odisha, through its wholly owned subsidiary Greenply Sandila. This development marks a major milestone in the company’s growth journey while reinforcing the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India vision. Designed to serve as a central hub for plywood and medium-density fibreboard (MDF) production, the plant will play a significant role in boosting both the company’s capacity and the regional economy.
The project has been positioned as a driver of large-scale employment and sustainable growth. The plant is expected to create more than 1,200 direct jobs, alongside additional indirect opportunities through allied services and supply chains. By tapping into the growing demand for high-quality wood-based panels across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, Greenply is also strengthening India’s self-reliance in building materials manufacturing.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior state officials, underlining the importance of the investment to the state’s industrial roadmap. The government’s support—including land allotment and streamlined regulatory approvals—was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. The presence of senior leadership reflected a shared commitment to advancing Odisha’s industrial ecosystem while providing employment and development opportunities to local communities.
A key focus of the Semiliguda facility is its sustainable production model. Greenply has emphasized that the plant will rely on plantation-grown timber, reducing dependency on natural forests and promoting responsible agroforestry practices. By creating a steady demand for farm-grown timber, the facility is expected to support local farmers while ensuring long-term ecological balance. The approach aligns with Greenply’s broader environmental commitments, including reducing carbon footprints, conserving natural resources, and enabling a more circular economy in the wood panel sector.
Rajesh Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Greenply Industries, spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the project’s wide-ranging impact. He noted that the new facility not only strengthens the company’s manufacturing footprint but also reflects Greenply’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, local employment generation, and industry leadership. Mittal emphasized that the plant will become a catalyst for both business growth and regional development.
The Semiliguda facility has been strategically located to leverage efficient road and rail connectivity, providing a logistical advantage for raw material procurement and finished goods distribution. Its position in eastern India gives Greenply an opportunity to serve new markets with greater agility while optimizing costs. As a result, the plant is expected to function as a key hub for advanced manufacturing and logistics, supporting the company’s long-term expansion strategy.
By combining eco-conscious production methods with large-scale employment, infrastructure support, and logistical efficiency, Greenply’s Semiliguda plant represents a powerful example of private enterprise and government collaboration. It reflects how industrial investments can align business goals with socio-economic progress, delivering sustainable benefits for both companies and communities.
With this facility, Greenply is not only expanding its capacity but also reaffirming its role as a leader in India’s interior infrastructure sector—driving innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth in one of the country’s most dynamic regions.
