Bloom-in-Box Achieves Major Energy Savings with FANUC Roboshot Machines
Bloom-in-Box, a leading sustainable plastic product manufacturer, has significantly expanded its production capabilities while reducing its carbon footprint, thanks to the integration of FANUC Roboshot all-electric injection moulding machines. Since the installation of its first Roboshot S150iA in 2022, the company has recorded a 33% drop in energy consumption compared to other all-electric machines in use at its Burscough facility.
The success of this installation has led Bloom-in-Box to invest in two additional Roboshot machines — a S50iB and a S100iB — helping to meet increasing demand for its eco-conscious product lines, including scoops for the active nutrition market and a patented compostable item for clay pigeon shooting.
“When it comes to energy performance, these machines are out of this world,” said Tom Reardon, Production Coordinator and Robotics Engineer at Bloom-in-Box. “They are a long-term investment in our move toward a lower-carbon future.”
The Roboshot’s energy efficiency has been central to the company’s shift from carbon offsetting to direct on-site energy reduction, supported by a 40kWp solar system. The Roboshot S150iA consumes just 2.5–3kWh per hour, equating to annual savings of over 4,000kWh. In comparison tests, the machine has used 50% less energy than rival models — translating into a potential £7,000 annual saving on certain applications.
In addition to energy savings, FANUC’s lifetime product support — with spare parts available for over 25 years — reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability by reducing the need for frequent machine replacements.
Bloom-in-Box operates on a 60kVa/100amp supply, keeping capacity charges low while maintaining production flexibility and output — a testament to the Roboshot’s efficient performance.
As part of a wider industry story on sustainability and innovation in UK manufacturing, MTDCNC will be filming at Bloom-in-Box soon to capture this journey on camera — sharing how smart machine choices like the Roboshot can drive real-world environmental and economic gains.
