The extensive range of milling cutters from Sandvik Coromant has been extended with the arrival of the CoroMill 745 range. To explain this new product line, Alan Cawtheray, Senior specialist milling products at Sandvik Coromant told MTDCNC: “This new tool has some very unique features. It has a 42 degree lead angle on a negative cutter. The developers have been very clever with the design. The tool has ground inserts that make it very positive and it works very well on 40 taper machine tools.” “The 63mm diameter tool requires very little power and makes it very robust for a roughing to semi-finishing cutter. It removes material very quickly and can machine at depths over 5mm. The inserts do not have to be removed from the tool body to be rotated to the next index. We have a full range of the ISO program. We have inserts for steel, stainless and addition grades for cast iron.” “We also have an extensive line of lighter cutters such as the 345 Series. It is an 8 inch concept, but again it is a negative insert with positive geometries and again, that is a very capable cutter for light cutting. We have a 4mm and 8mm wiper, so we can achieve a very good surface finish. Additionally, we have the 245, a 4 inch concept that is very positive and better applied to the heat resistant materials.”
