Volkswagen has joined forces with the German start-up Revoltech GmbH to develop a groundbreaking 100% bio-based leather alternative for future car interiors. This innovative material, named LOVR, is made from industrial hemp residues and is set to debut in Volkswagen models as early as 2028.

LOVR is fully recyclable and compostable, offering an eco-friendly option that can be seamlessly integrated into existing industrial production processes. This collaboration underscores Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with its ACCELERATE strategy, which focuses on combining customer needs with environmental goals.

Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen’s Board Member for Technical Development, and Andreas Walingen, Head of Strategy at Volkswagen, emphasized the importance of innovative, resource-efficient solutions in the automotive industry. Lucas Fuhrmann, CEO of Revoltech GmbH, praised the partnership, highlighting LOVR’s potential to transform automotive interiors with its sustainable attributes.

Set to enhance Volkswagen’s sustainability efforts, LOVR has already received positive initial customer feedback, signaling its promise as a viable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional automotive materials.
