The firm announced Thursday that the facility in York Township, south of Ann Arbour, will test hybrid and electric vehicle batteries built at a new factory in North Carolina as well as from battery suppliers. Toyota will reassign personnel from other areas and give training as needed, so no new employment will be created.

According to the firm, the lab will open in 2025 and may be enlarged as more electric vehicles are produced. The lab will examine performance, quality, and durability, as well as charging capabilities.”This new facility also enables us to experiment and pursue new opportunities as technology and business needs advance,” said Jordan Choby, group vice president of powertrain.
