Toyota and Daimler will merge the Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso truck brands

Daimler, the German truck manufacturer, Toyota, and two other automakers announced Tuesday that they will collaborate on innovative technologies, including the use of hydrogen fuel, to combat climate change.

The firms announced a merger between Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp., whose largest shareholder is Daimler Truck, and Hino Motors, the Toyota group’s truck manufacturer. Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corp. would both participate equally in the holding company of the Mitsubishi-Hino merger, they stated, without providing a dollar figure.

The firms intend to work together to reduce carbon emissions and develop other technologies such as self-driving cars, internet-connected services, and electric automobiles.

“This collaboration among our four companies is a partnership for creating the future of commercial vehicles in Japan and the future of a’mobility society,” said Toyota Motor Corp. CEO Koji Sato.

According to the CEOs, the two truck businesses would collaborate on commercial vehicle research, procurement, and production in order to become globally competitive.
