By Ashutosh Arora
In a significant boost to India’s electric mobility sector, Ultraviolette Automotive has secured $21 million in funding led by TDK Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Japan’s TDK Corporation. The investment marks a strategic partnership aimed at advancing performance-oriented electric two-wheelers, expanding Ultraviolette’s retail footprint, and developing next-generation battery and intelligent vehicle technologies for global markets.
The funding round saw participation from existing backers Zoho Corporation and Lingotto (formerly Exor Capital), alongside other institutional investors. TDK Ventures now joins an impressive roster of stakeholders, including Qualcomm Ventures, TVS Motor Company, Speciale Invest, and prominent individual investors such as Sriharsha Majety, Ankit Nagori, Aprameya Radhakrishna, and actor Dulquer Salmaan.
Founded in 2016 by Narayan Subramaniam and Niraj Rajmohan, Ultraviolette has quickly risen to prominence in the high-performance EV segment. Its flagship motorcycle, the F77, is the first Indian electric two-wheeler to earn European certification and is currently sold in 10 European countries. In India, Ultraviolette operates in 20 cities and aims to expand to over 100 cities nationwide in the coming years.
The collaboration with TDK Ventures is expected to accelerate work on advanced battery platforms, intelligent vehicle systems, and deep-tech innovations that push the boundaries of electric mobility. Narayan Subramaniam highlighted that this partnership will fast-track Ultraviolette’s vision for future-ready, aspirational, and globally relevant EVs. Niraj Rajmohan emphasized the goal of creating smarter, safer, and more efficient mobility ecosystems through cutting-edge engineering.
TDK Ventures, known for its focus on energy, mobility, and sustainability, supports scalable solutions that impact the global economy. Its Bengaluru Innovation Hub, launched in 2023, plays a crucial role in enabling Indian entrepreneurs to take technologies to international markets. TDK Corporation itself is a global leader in electronic solutions, with $14.4 billion in FY2025 sales and a workforce of 105,000 employees worldwide.
This investment not only strengthens Ultraviolette’s position in India’s competitive EV landscape but also reinforces the country’s role as a hub for high-performance electric mobility innovation. With TDK’s expertise in battery technology and Ultraviolette’s engineering capabilities, the partnership is set to drive next-generation electric two-wheeler solutions for both domestic and global markets.
