SK Minerals & Additives Ltd (BSE SME: 544584), a leading manufacturer and trader of specialty chemicals, has achieved a major milestone in India’s chemical innovation landscape by developing the nation’s first halogen-free flame retardant additive. This cutting-edge product is designed specifically for XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) wire and cable applications, setting new standards in both performance and environmental safety.

Announced during the Cable & Wire Fair 2025 in New Delhi, the company’s innovation marks a decisive step towards sustainable and safer cable manufacturing. The newly developed Hofnil Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Additive (HFFR-XL) eliminates the need for halogen-based compounds, which are known to release toxic gases upon combustion. By doing so, it offers a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable alternative for wire and cable producers striving to meet global safety and environmental norms.

Speaking at the event, Mohit Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of SK Minerals & Additives Ltd, emphasized the importance of this breakthrough. He said, “Our relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to sustainability has led us to create a product that not only meets international flame retardant standards but also supports a greener planet. This milestone reflects our continuous efforts to position India as a global hub for innovative and sustainable chemical solutions.”

For decades, the cable manufacturing industry has struggled to balance flame retardancy with the mechanical and thermal properties of XLPE materials. The introduction of HFFR-XL resolves this long-standing challenge, combining superior flame resistance with excellent compatibility and thermal stability. This advancement is expected to reduce environmental hazards associated with halogenated materials and drive a significant transformation across the wire and cable sector.

Currently, SK Minerals & Additives is in the process of obtaining industry certifications and is preparing for a commercial rollout. Early market feedback has been promising, with the company already receiving a letter of intent from a major integrated wire and cable manufacturer in India. The management projects that this new product could generate revenue exceeding ₹200 crore by FY28, underlining its strong market potential and growing demand for eco-friendly solutions.

Adding to the company’s momentum, SK Minerals recently made a strong debut on the BSE SME platform on October 17, 2025, raising ₹41.15 crore through its IPO. The shares opened at a 14.17% premium, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s innovation-driven growth strategy. Furthermore, SK Minerals secured a significant ₹56.71 crore order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the supply of technical-grade urea to four of BPCL’s plants across India.

Rohit Jindal, Director of SK Minerals & Additives, highlighted the company’s research and development prowess, stating, “This product exemplifies our expertise in specialty chemical formulation and global R&D capability. Our team worked tirelessly to deliver an additive that ensures optimal performance without compromising environmental integrity.”

With this landmark achievement, SK Minerals & Additives not only strengthens its position in the specialty chemicals domain but also reinforces India’s growing role in advancing sustainable industrial innovation.
