Revolutionizing Abrasives: Walter’s Trio of Technologies Prolong Performance
Walter Surface Technologies has introduced three new technologies aimed at enhancing the lifespan of its high-performance ceramic abrasives.
The first innovation, Walter’s Smart Resin Technology, is integrated into bonded abrasives like the Zip XX and the Xcavator XX. This technology strategically exposes fresh ceramic grains at the precise moment to strike a balance between sharpness and longevity in metalworking applications.
The second advancement, Walter’s V-Strong Backing Technology, is featured in ceramic sanding discs such as the Xtracut and the Coolcut XX. This technology enhances the durability and toughness of the wheel by bolstering its resistance, resulting in extended product lifespan. According to Marc Brunet Gagné, Senior Product Manager of abrasive power tools at Walter, the increased vulcanized fiber content in the cloth ensures longer-lasting ceramic sanding discs, reducing the need for frequent wheel changes.
Lastly, Walter’s Max Life cold curing glue addresses a common issue with flap discs. Traditional baking methods used in manufacturing can lead to drying out of the backing cloth, diminishing performance over time. By utilizing cold curing glue, Walter ensures the freshest abrasives are delivered, preventing micro-cracking and prolonging disc life by up to 25%.
