At IMTS 2024, Markforged Holding Corp. introduced its groundbreaking FX10 3D printer, which can process both metal filaments and composites with continuous fiber reinforcement. Launched as the world’s first industrial printer with this dual capability, the FX10 has garnered significant attention for its versatility and innovation.

Harrison Davis, systems print engineer II, explained that the printer allows users to seamlessly switch between plastic, carbon-fiber-reinforced materials, and metals with a simple 15-minute hardware swap. Initially released in November 2023 as a composite-only printer, the FX10 was designed to be one of the most adaptable tools on the factory floor, and it has already received positive feedback from early adopters.

The new FX10 Metal Kit further enhances its capabilities, enabling users to switch between metal and composite printing as needed, making it a one-stop solution for various manufacturing needs. Davis shared that IMTS attendees were particularly impressed when they realized that the same printer could handle both metal and composite tasks, a feature that has excited both existing customers and those new to additive manufacturing.

Overall, the FX10’s flexibility, ease of use, and ability to handle both materials make it a standout in the 3D printing industry, offering a comprehensive solution for a wide range of production requirements.
