Brattle Technologies, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based family-owned holding company of specialty businesses, has announced the acquisition of Lockwood Manufacturing Co., headquartered in Livonia, Michigan. The deal marks a strategic move to strengthen Brattle’s portfolio in precision manufacturing and expand its reach into industries where Lockwood has long established expertise.
Lockwood Manufacturing has been a trusted producer of aluminum- and steel-based equipment for a wide spectrum of sectors, including industrial, laboratory, food service, hospitality, and health care. Its diverse product portfolio—racks, cabinets, carts, heat units, and material handling equipment—has positioned the company as a reliable supplier of durable and customizable solutions. Beyond its own product lines, Lockwood also plays a critical role as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner for companies selling industrial and scientific appliances, underscoring its importance in multiple supply chains.
What distinguishes Lockwood is its comprehensive, vertically integrated manufacturing capability. The company houses advanced in-house design services, laser cutting technology, robotic welding, powder coating, and electrical component assembly, enabling it to offer end-to-end production solutions. These capabilities not only ensure greater control over quality and lead times but also allow Lockwood to deliver specialized and scalable solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers.
As part of the acquisition, Lockwood will continue to operate with its existing leadership team, ensuring stability and continuity. Matt Phillips, who has been serving as president, has been promoted to CEO. He succeeds David Lamson, the company’s former owner and CEO, who will remain actively engaged with Lockwood as a member of the board of directors. This leadership transition reflects a commitment to preserving institutional knowledge while embracing new opportunities under Brattle Technologies’ ownership.
For Brattle Technologies, the acquisition represents more than just an addition to its portfolio—it is a strategic investment in a company with strong growth potential and broad industry reach. Lockwood’s expertise in precision fabrication and integrated production aligns well with Brattle’s focus on specialty businesses that deliver high-value, mission-critical solutions. By leveraging Brattle’s resources and strategic guidance, Lockwood is expected to accelerate its innovation pipeline, expand into new markets, and enhance operational efficiency.
The deal also highlights Brattle Technologies’ confidence in the long-term strength of U.S. manufacturing, particularly in industries demanding reliable, customized equipment. With Lockwood’s capabilities now part of its family of businesses, Brattle is positioned to expand its influence across both traditional and emerging markets.
By combining Lockwood’s decades of expertise with Brattle’s vision for growth, the acquisition sets the stage for new opportunities in design, manufacturing, and customer collaboration—ultimately creating greater value for clients and reinforcing Lockwood’s reputation as a leader in its field.
