Hyundai Mobis has announced a three-pronged strategy aimed at advancing sustainable and recyclable materials, marking a significant step towards achieving a competitive edge in the future automotive industry. This initiative is part of the company’s efforts to meet tightening global environmental regulations expected by 2030, while also enhancing its position in electrification and electronic components.

The strategy revolves around three key pillars: sustainable materials, innovative materials, and digital materials. By focusing on these areas, Hyundai Mobis seeks to secure independent competitiveness in materials, components, and equipment (MCE) and address the growing demand for eco-friendly automotive solutions.

  • Sustainable Materials: Hyundai Mobis is prioritizing the development of recycled plastics and bio-based alternatives. One innovation includes a protective cover for a vehicle’s underbody made from 50% recycled plastic, positioning the company ahead of upcoming EU legislation that mandates 25% recycled content in new car plastics by 2030.
  • Innovative Materials: To reduce the use of rare metals, Hyundai Mobis has developed a new material for inductors in electric vehicle power conversion, cutting nickel content from 50% to around 30%. The company is also exploring nickel-free alternatives, aiming to lower costs while maintaining performance. Other innovations include high-speed charging battery cooling technologies and advanced materials for autonomous driving sensors.
  • Digital Materials: Hyundai Mobis is integrating AI and virtual simulations to predict material characteristics and drive innovation. The company has over 100 researchers dedicated to material science and is expanding its team to further strengthen its capabilities.

This comprehensive approach reinforces Hyundai Mobis’ commitment to sustainability while ensuring its leadership in next-generation automotive technologies.
