In a significant boost to Tamil Nadu’s high-value manufacturing ecosystem, Hikoki Power Tools India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Koki Holdings, has announced plans to set up a world-class manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City in Chengalpattu. The move underscores the state’s growing appeal as a hub for advanced industrial investment and technological innovation.

The milestone announcement was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Tamil Nadu and Hikoki Power Tools India, in the esteemed presence of Chief Minister Thiru M. K. Stalin. The ambitious ₹700 crore investment will not only enhance local manufacturing capabilities but is also expected to create 1,302 new employment opportunities, providing a substantial boost to the state’s economy.

Hikoki Power Tools India has been a trusted name in the country’s power tools sector since its inception in 1996, offering a wide range of high-performance products for professional and industrial applications. Over the decades, the company has established a robust sales network, cementing its leadership in the market. The upcoming Tamil Nadu facility represents a strategic expansion that will enable Hikoki to integrate advanced manufacturing processes, reduce import dependency, and deliver enhanced product quality for both domestic and international markets.

The investment marks a strategic shift from traditional assembly-based operations to high-value, technology-driven production. The facility will likely incorporate state-of-the-art automation, precision engineering, and stringent quality control systems, aligning with global best practices in manufacturing. This transformation is expected to improve efficiency, foster innovation, and enhance the company’s responsiveness to evolving customer needs.

From the state’s perspective, the project strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as a preferred investment destination for global manufacturing companies. Over the past decade, the state has built an ecosystem supported by strong infrastructure, skilled talent pools, favourable industrial policies, and a proactive government approach to attracting foreign direct investment.

Industry experts note that this development could further encourage other Japanese and international manufacturers to consider Tamil Nadu as their base for high-value production in India. The partnership between Hikoki and the state also reflects the deepening economic ties between India and Japan, with technology transfer and skill development forming key components of such collaborations.

By establishing this facility, Hikoki Power Tools India is not only reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Indian market but also contributing to the broader “Make in India” initiative. With operations set to focus on advanced manufacturing capabilities, the company aims to meet growing demand, improve supply chain resilience, and position Tamil Nadu as a critical node in its global production network.
