H.B. Carbide Co. has introduced the HB-710 carbide grade, designed to enhance edge security and resistance during the machining of high-temperature materials such as nickel-based alloys and stainless steel. This new grade offers exceptional performance in demanding aerospace and medical applications, where milling and drilling difficult-to-machine materials is required.

The HB-710 grade achieves a unique balance between toughness and hardness, providing increased edge-line security and resistance to common tool failures such as corner and micro chipping. These issues are often encountered when working with tough materials under high temperatures. The grade’s toughness ensures longer tool life, while its hardness contributes to better wear resistance.

Developed with an optimal blend of toughness and wear resistance, HB-710 utilizes submicron grain size and a medium-low cobalt content. This formulation is ideal for achieving precise cutting-edge geometries through grinding, allowing the grade to perform consistently and predictably, reducing the risk of tool breakage and costly downtime. According to Jon Wyniemko, Director of Sales at H.B. Carbide, this grade eliminates performance inconsistencies, which helps avoid component damage in later machining stages, improving efficiency and reducing scrap.

With its specialized composition and tailored performance, HB-710 significantly boosts machining quality and reliability, making it a powerful tool for high-precision operations in industries that require superior materials and machinery performance.
