Greaves Electric Mobility to Establish Battery Assembly Line at Tamil Nadu Facility by 2027!

Greaves Electric Mobility, a leading name in electric two- and three-wheelers, has announced plans to set up an in-house battery pack assembly line at its Ranipet facility in Tamil Nadu by FY 2027. The initiative is aimed at improving cost efficiency, supply chain reliability, and product quality, reflecting the company’s strategy for sustainable growth.
The Bengaluru-based electric mobility arm of Greaves Cotton Ltd. currently relies on external suppliers for assembled battery packs, which significantly impact production costs—33% for Ampere electric two-wheelers and 54% for electric three-wheelers. By July 2026, the new assembly line will be operational, following commissioning in May 2026, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 units.
Greaves Electric is actively pursuing advanced battery technologies and formulations to reduce costs and enhance charging efficiency and performance. The company has shortlisted 13 potential suppliers from South-East Asia, China, and India for battery cells, which will serve as raw materials for its assembly line. While no definitive agreements have been reached, this exploration underscores the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability.
The Ranipet facility, one of Greaves Electric’s three manufacturing units, currently produces Ampere electric two-wheelers with an annual capacity of 480,000 units. Beyond battery production, Greaves plans to allocate ₹375.3 crorefrom its IPO proceeds to advance product and technology development at its Bengaluru technology center, further reinforcing its commitment to innovation.
