General Motors (GM) and Hyundai Motor Co. have announced plans to explore a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing vehicle development, improving supply chains, and advancing clean-energy technologies. The partnership, announced on Thursday, seeks to reduce production costs and accelerate the availability of a broader range of vehicles for customers, including both combustion engine models and electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

The collaboration will also focus on joint sourcing of key materials such as battery raw materials and steel, potentially driving down costs and increasing efficiency.

“Our goal is to unlock the scale and creativity of both companies to deliver even more competitive vehicles to customers faster and more efficiently,” said Mary Barra, GM Chair and CEO, in a company statement.

The automakers have signed a memorandum of understanding, and are working toward finalizing binding agreements to solidify their collaboration in the near future.
