GE Aerospace has announced a fresh investment of US$14 million to expand its advanced manufacturing facility in Pune, marking ten years of operations in India. This new infusion follows the company’s US$30 million investment last year, underscoring GE’s long-term commitment to scaling production capabilities, enhancing automation, and strengthening India’s position in the global aerospace supply chain.

The latest investment will support significant upgrades to manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on advanced engine components that require high precision and stringent quality control. Increased automation and process modernization are expected to boost output, improve workflow efficiency, and elevate the facility’s readiness for next-generation aerospace programs.

Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune facility, highlighted the importance of this expansion in advancing both GE’s global goals and India’s manufacturing ambitions. He noted that the Pune team has built robust capabilities, supported by a nationwide network of suppliers, enabling the plant to deliver components for GE’s most technologically advanced commercial jet engines. Singh emphasized that the investment reflects GE Aerospace’s strong alignment with the Make in India initiative and its commitment to deepening India’s role in the international aerospace landscape.

Over the past decade, GE Aerospace’s Pune site has evolved from a multi-business manufacturing centre into a specialized hub for high-tech aerospace components. It now supports GE’s global commercial engine programs and relies on a network of more than 300 suppliers—part of a broader 2,200-strong ecosystem across India. The company has also invested heavily in workforce development, training over 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing techniques essential for aerospace production. This focus on skilling has played a crucial role in cultivating local talent and developing a highly capable technical workforce.

Sustainability and operational excellence remain central to GE’s Pune operations. The facility holds ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, reflecting its adherence to high environmental, safety, and occupational health standards. A key driver of the site’s operational success is GE’s proprietary FLIGHT DECK model, a lean operating system designed to advance safety, reduce waste, and improve productivity. The model has helped streamline processes, shorten lead times, enhance output, and reduce downtime across various production lines—including a recently established line for a critical engine component.

By integrating automation, lean methodologies, and a strong supplier network, GE Aerospace’s expanded Pune facility is poised to play an even larger role in global aerospace programs. The latest investment not only enhances production capacity but also positions the site as a key contributor to the next era of advanced aerospace manufacturing emerging from India.
