Emuge-Franken USA has announced a collaborative Machining Technology Event in partnership with Okuma America Corp. and Open Mind Technologies. The event will take place on September 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Okuma North America’s headquarters, located at 11900 Westhall Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina. It is aimed at manufacturers in sectors such as aerospace, medical, and mold/die, and will provide an opportunity to see cutting-edge workholding, machining, and CAM software technologies in action.

The centerpiece of the event will be a live machining demonstration showcasing the Emuge-Franken Evogrip Modular Workholding System. This system features a standard centering vise designed for precise centric clamping with a holding force of up to 75 kN, ensuring significant stability even with parts exhibiting large overhangs. For the demonstration, a 4140 steel structural housing hinge with a five-inch overhang and a large three-quarter-inch hole will be machined under conditions meant to test stress and clamping performance at full machining forces.

The machining will be conducted on the Okuma MU8000V five-axis vertical machining center, which is designed for high-efficiency milling, complex part geometries, and simultaneous five-axis operations. Attendees will observe the machine performing both high-feed roughing and precision finishing, supported by Emuge Circle Segment end mills known for their ability to reduce cycle times and improve surface quality. The demonstration is intended to illustrate how the combination of advanced workholding, robust machine capabilities, and optimized tooling can deliver superior results under challenging machining conditions.

Open Mind Technologies will complement the live machining with demonstrations of its HyperMill CAM software. HyperMill is recognized for its advanced tool path generation, particularly in five-axis applications, where smoothness, speed, and control are critical to achieving both productivity and precision. During the event, experts will show how HyperMill’s tool paths enhance performance by enabling faster machining while reducing tool wear and ensuring a superior surface finish.

By bringing together Emuge-Franken’s modular workholding expertise, Okuma’s five-axis machining technology, and Open Mind’s advanced CAM solutions, the event is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive view of how integrated technologies can overcome some of the toughest challenges in modern manufacturing. This collaborative format is also meant to highlight the importance of combining tooling, machine, and software innovation to achieve higher productivity, improved accuracy, and reduced cycle times.

“Events like these allow manufacturers to see firsthand the benefits of combining the latest in workholding, machine tools, and CAM software,” said representatives from the organizing companies. “We are excited to showcase how advanced solutions can make a measurable impact in real-world machining environments.”

Manufacturers interested in attending the event are encouraged to register in advance through the event website. With live demonstrations, expert insights, and opportunities for one-on-one discussions with application specialists, the event promises to deliver practical knowledge for companies looking to enhance their machining strategies.
