BorgWarner has secured four significant new energy vehicle (NEV) motor projects with three leading Chinese domestic brands, marking a continued expansion in the growing electric vehicle market in China. The company will supply 400V HVH motors for a 200kW hybrid rear-drive platform from a Chinese NEV supplier, with production set to begin in August 2025. BorgWarner will also provide electric motors for a major Chinese OEM’s next-generation range-extended and plug-in hybrid models, with production slated for August and October 2025.

Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, expressed his excitement about the new wins, stating, “We are pleased to extend our success in China with several new electric motor business wins for a variety of hybrid and electric applications. We are dedicated to continuously innovating our technology and improving our manufacturing processes to deliver high-quality products and services to meet the evolving needs of new energy vehicle customers.”

To further support its expansion, BorgWarner has launched its Ultra Short High Voltage Hairpin (S-HVH) eMotor technology, designed to meet the increasing demand for NEVs in China. The S-HVH technology provides several benefits over traditional HVH windings:

  • Reduction of over 5mm in copper trim end size
  • Lower overall axial volume, which increases power density
  • Reduced copper usage, leading to improved efficiency and cost savings

The S-HVH design also ensures seamless integration into existing production lines, making factory modifications easier. This technology is versatile, compatible with both 400V and 800V platforms, and can be used across a range of NEV models.

BorgWarner’s continued innovation and the introduction of its new S-HVH technology highlight the company’s commitment to providing enhanced performance and efficiency for the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles. The move is expected to solidify BorgWarner’s position in the Chinese market, supporting the country’s growing shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.
