Angstrom Group, headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, has acquired San Francisco–based Mantle, a leading innovator in metal Additive Manufacturing tooling. This strategic move brings Mantle’s breakthrough hybrid AM–CNC manufacturing technology into Angstrom’s expanding portfolio of advanced manufacturing companies, positioning both organizations to scale high-precision toolmaking for global industries.

Mantle has earned industry-wide recognition for its unique TrueShape™ technology, which combines precision metal Additive Manufacturing with integrated CNC machining to produce injection mold tooling components with exceptional accuracy, surface finish, and repeatability. By blending additive and subtractive processes in a single platform, Mantle dramatically reduces lead times, machining requirements, and traditional toolmaking costs—making it a transformative solution for manufacturers seeking faster and more efficient tooling workflows.

Through the acquisition, Angstrom Group aims to accelerate Mantle’s growth and broaden the availability of its technology. The investment will help Mantle increase production capacity, expand its network of global partners, and intensify deployment of its hybrid manufacturing systems across key markets. Angstrom will also introduce financing options and integrated tool design services, lowering the barriers to adoption for manufacturers looking to incorporate next-generation metal AM into their operations.

“With Mantle now part of the Angstrom family, our goal is clear: to industrialize this breakthrough metal additive technology and make it broadly accessible,” said Nagesh Palakurthi, founder and CEO of Angstrom Group. He emphasized that the combined strengths of both companies will help customers adopt metal 3D printing at scale, unlocking faster product development cycles and more cost-efficient tooling production.

Ted Sorom, CEO of Mantle, described the acquisition as a defining moment for the company. “This is a very exciting day for Mantle and our customers. The Angstrom Group has a stellar reputation in the manufacturing industry, and by combining forces, Mantle will be able to further our mission of revolutionizing toolmaking for plastic part manufacturers globally,” he stated. Sorom added that customers can expect continued innovation as Mantle’s TrueShape technology is advanced and expanded with Angstrom’s support.

The acquisition aligns with broader industry trends in advanced manufacturing, where companies increasingly rely on hybrid processes to meet demands for faster iteration, improved performance, and greater design freedom. Mantle’s ability to consolidate multiple manufacturing steps into a single automated workflow offers significant advantages in tool accuracy, durability, and turnaround times—critical factors for injection molders and high-volume production environments.

With Angstrom’s resources, customer network, and engineering expertise, Mantle is now positioned to scale from a pioneering technology company into a global force driving the future of metal AM tooling. As the industry continues to push for shorter development cycles and greater agility, the integration of Mantle’s hybrid AM technology into Angstrom’s ecosystem signals a major step forward in the industrialization of Additive Manufacturing for tooling applications.
