ACMA Strengthens Aftermarket with Manav Kapur as Chairman!
By Ashutosh Arora
The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the apex body representing India’s auto component sector, has announced the appointment of Manav Kapur as Chairman of its Aftermarket Pillar. This leadership move underscores the growing importance of the aftermarket segment in shaping the future of India’s automotive industry, which plays a pivotal role in supporting mobility, employment, and road safety across the nation.
The aftermarket is one of the most dynamic and fast-evolving parts of the automotive value chain. It covers everything from spare parts and repair services to accessories and diagnostics, impacting millions of vehicle owners and service providers. In India, with vehicle ownership rising rapidly and the average age of vehicles increasing, the aftermarket sector has become an essential contributor not just to consumer mobility but also to job creation and roadworthiness. ACMA’s decision to strengthen this pillar with an experienced leader reflects its recognition of the sector’s potential as a driver of growth and innovation.
Kapur brings to the role extensive leadership experience and a proven record of engaging with the industry’s next generation of entrepreneurs. As the former Chairman of ACMA’s Young Business Leaders Forum, he spearheaded initiatives that encouraged collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the nurturing of future leadership talent. His new role will build on this foundation but with a sharper focus on competitiveness, localisation, and global expansion.
Speaking on his appointment, Kapur said, “The Indian aftermarket is at an inflection point. With rising vehicle ownership, a growing focus on safety, and India’s expanding role in global mobility value chains, there is a tremendous opportunity to transform this sector. Our priority will be to drive initiatives that not only make India self-reliant but also position our aftermarket industry as a trusted global partner.” His statement highlights both the domestic and international dimensions of his vision—on one hand improving quality, availability, and affordability of spare parts within India, and on the other, boosting exports and integration into global supply chains.
This leadership transition is part of a larger renewal at ACMA. Alongside Kapur’s appointment, the association has named Vikrampati Singhania as its new President for 2025–26 and Sriram Viji as President Designate. Together with Vinnie Mehta, ACMA’s long-serving Director General, the team will guide India’s auto component industry through a period of profound transformation marked by electrification, new mobility solutions, supply chain realignment, and rapid technology adoption.
The aftermarket’s role in this transformation cannot be overstated. As electric vehicles, connected systems, and advanced safety technologies become more prevalent, the aftermarket sector must adapt by upskilling its workforce, building capabilities for advanced diagnostics, and ensuring that service networks are prepared for next-generation vehicles. At the same time, traditional segments such as two- and three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and agricultural machinery will continue to demand robust support, making the sector both diverse and critical.
Over the years, ACMA has played a crucial role in shaping industry policy, promoting innovation, and fostering global partnerships. By strengthening the aftermarket pillar under Kapur’s stewardship, the association signals its intent to elevate India’s role in global value chains while also ensuring that the domestic ecosystem is resilient, efficient, and customer-focused.
The appointment of Manav Kapur is thus not just a leadership change but also a strategic statement—one that aligns with India’s broader vision of becoming a world leader in mobility solutions. With his experience, industry engagement, and forward-looking approach, Kapur is well-positioned to steer the aftermarket industry into a new era of growth, self-reliance, and global competitiveness.
