Subaru Will Adopt Tesla’s Electric Vehicle Charging Standard in 2025

Subaru of America announced that its parent company, Subaru Corporation, has achieved an agreement with Tesla to use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for the charging ports of its battery electric cars (BEVs) that will be available in North America starting in 2025. Subaru will implement NACS ports on some Subaru BEVs launched in North America beginning in 2025 to provide customers with access to the massive Tesla charging network, and will continue to push NACS adoption for subsequent BEVs launched after that.

Additionally, Subaru intends to make a NACS adapter available to customers who own or lease eligible Subaru BEVs equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) beginning in 2025. Customers who purchase NACS-compatible Subaru BEVs will have access to over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, considerably improving charging convenience. Subaru has stated a target of “aiming for 50% of total global sales to be BEVs in 2030” under the new management structure created in June 2023 to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.
