Volta Energy Solutions (Volta), a subsidiary of Solus Advanced Materials in South Korea, is establishing Canada’s first battery copper foil facility in Granby, Quebec. Volta Energy Solutions Canada has established itself in Quebec with the goal of actively contributing to the growth of the EV battery industry. Volta Energy Solutions is a global leader in the supply of EV battery materials such as battery copper foil. Currently, the company manufactures copper foil in Luxembourg and battery copper foil in Hungary. The Granby plant will be the third and will answer to the expanding demand in the North American market.

“In the construction of lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in EVs, copper foil plays an important role as a current collector.” Quebec is the ideal location for Volta’s first North American factory, with its strategic geographical location providing privileged access to the North American market and its strong political commitment to making electric vehicle battery production a key sector of its economy,” said Dejae Chin, Chairman of Solus Advanced Materials and Volta Energy Solutions. “The support of the governments of Quebec and Canada, as well as the City of Granby, was critical to the success of this inauguration.” For the foreseeable future, our team is committed to boosting the efficiency of the local EV battery supply chain.”

Volta anticipates entering mass production in 2026 and selling its goods to clients in North America. This first phase will manufacture 25,000 tonnes of copper foil per year, increasing to 63,000 tonnes per year in phase 2. It equates to about 2,500,000 electric automobiles on the road. “Volta brings to the region unique advantages and expertise.” It distinguishes itself via its devotion to advanced technology, sustainability, and circular economy practises,” said Dejae Chin. “Volta’s presence in Granby is expected to have significant positive effects, including job creation, local sourcing, and community engagement.”
