SK On, EcoProBM, and Ford announced a C$1.2 billion investment today to develop a cathode manufacturing facility that would manufacture materials that will eventually supply batteries for Ford’s future electric vehicles. The plant will be able to generate up to 45,000 tonnes of CAM each year once production begins in the first half of 2026.

This new factory, Ford’s first in Québec, is part of the automaker’s strategy to localise essential battery raw material processing in regions where it manufactures EVs.”Ford has been serving customers in Canada for 119 years, longer than any other automaker, and we’re excited to invest in this new facility to help create a vertically integrated, closed-loop battery manufacturing supply chain in North America designed to help make electric vehicles more accessible to millions of people over time,” said Bev Goodman, president and CEO of Ford of Canada. “We’re excited for the opportunity to make our first-ever investment in Québec, with a new facility that will help shape the EV ecosystem there.”

EcoPro CAM Canada LP will produce cathode active materials and, more specifically, high-quality Nickel Cobalt Manganese (NCM) for rechargeable batteries with higher performance levels and greater EV range than existing products, thanks in part to EcoPro’s core-shell gradient (CSG) technology. Construction has begun on the 280,000 square-meter (or more than 3 million-square-foot) site, which will house approximately 345 new jobs for Canada, ranging from engineers and sales and service professionals to co-op positions for students from local universities and colleges in Québec. EcoPro CAM Canada LP will also conduct research and development to improve battery safety and performance, as well as increase productivity and reduce the environmental impact of its production process.
