The FaceMill-Diamond PCD face milling cutter that has been successfully in use for many years has now been enhanced with new optimised cooling channels. During HPC applications or when machining unstable parts with cutting depths up to 10 mm, the monolithic design with brazed PCD cutting edges permits large numbers of teeth and this improves high feeds and material removal rates. Whilst the FaceMill-Diamond results in very good surface finishes and impressive tool life, MAPAL has taken the technology to another level.
With the goal of making the proven solution even better, the FaceMill-Diamond has now been overhauled with optimised cooling and lubrication channels that deliver coolant direct to the PCD cutting edges. The new coolant outlets are positioned directly at the cutting edges in the new FaceMill-Diamond model. This ensures improved chip removal and offers significant benefits, particularly in applications with MQL or air blast.
This upgrade to the new FaceMill-Diamond generates greater flexibility and independence for the machine interface. The face milling cutter is now designed as a modular cutting head variant that can now be flexibly, particularly for small series production with different machine parks or even large series manufacturing.
