The Manufacturing Assembly Network Design and Make Challenge took place at Warwick University, bringing together over 120 students from schools and colleges in the region. Alucast Ltd joined the event, which was focused on inspiring the next generation of engineers.
Participants were tasked with designing and building a mechanical device using basic tools and materials. The brief was revealed on the day itself, challenging students to apply creativity and technical skills. Alucast’s team, including former apprentices Connor Danks and Ryan Pateman and Managing Director Martin Haynes, offered hands-on support as students engaged in sawing, drilling, and gluing to bring their ideas to life.
Devices were assessed by a panel of engineers in three categories: Efficiency, Innovation, and Manufacturing. Schools with the most impressive designs won prizes, including company experience visits, providing a valuable glimpse into the engineering industry.
This event marked the sixth successful year of the challenge since its inception in 2018. It highlighted the potential of young minds in the manufacturing and engineering fields, whether they are pursuing a career in the industry or exploring technical problem-solving for the first time.
