Renishaw has expanded its Equator series with the introduction of the Equator–X 500 dual-method gauging system, giving manufacturers the flexibility to choose between two powerful inspection modes: Absolute and Compare. The new system is engineered to match the speed, versatility, and ease of use required to keep pace with today’s high-mix, high-precision production environments.

The dual-method approach makes the Equator–X 500 adaptable to different manufacturing scenarios. In Absolute mode, the system achieves scanning speeds of up to 250 mm/sec, making it ideal for small to medium batch production, high part variety, and first-off verification directly beside the machine. It also provides an efficient solution for at-line 100% inspection, ensuring quality compliance even for complex components.

In Compare mode, the Equator–X 500 doubles the scanning speed to 500 mm/sec, delivering the throughput needed for high-volume, repeat part inspection. This mode is particularly effective in large-batch production or in environments with fluctuating temperatures, where speed and stability are critical.

Built with a hexapod structure featuring independent drive and metrology frames, the system incorporates carbon fibre metrology struts, linear motor drives, and an SP25M scanning probe to deliver precision, durability, and repeatability in demanding conditions. Its structural design allows it to maintain accuracy while handling varying shopfloor environments.

The Equator–X 500 can operate as a stand-alone gauging device or be integrated into fully automated cells, making it a versatile fit for modern smart factories. Operators benefit from an intuitive software platform, which combines a simplified interface with the company’s MODUS IM metrology applications, reducing training requirements and ensuring ease of use.

Renishaw states that the Equator–X 500 represents a major step forward in shopfloor gauging by offering choice without compromise. Manufacturers no longer need to pick between speed and flexibility—the system is designed to deliver both.
