CMG Technologies Celebrates 50 Years of Innovation and Resilience in British Manufacturing

CMG Technologies, a leading force in metal injection moulding (MIM) and 3D printing, is proudly marking its 50th year in business. Based in Rendlesham, Suffolk, the company has grown from its origins as a fibre optics specialist in 1975 to become a champion of British engineering, serving a global customer base with precision components and cutting-edge solutions.

Originally launched under the name Europlus, the company has evolved significantly over the decades. In 2002, it became Egide UK before rebranding in 2013 to CMG Technologies — a name that reflects the vision of directors Chris Conway, Dr Phil Marsh, and Rachel Garrett, who led a successful management buyout.

Rachel Garrett, now Managing Director and daughter of the late Chris Conway, joined the business in 2004. Reflecting on the milestone, she said: “Today is both a proud moment and a significant achievement for our business and everyone who has been involved in its journey over the years. Like with every business, we’ve had our ups and downs, but our strength has always come from our incredible team — their innovation and resilience have allowed us to keep pushing forward.”

Under Garrett’s leadership, CMG Technologies has not only expanded its technological capabilities but also earned national recognition for its progressive workplace culture. The company was among the early pioneers of the four-day working week in the UK, an initiative that improved staff well-being while boosting productivity and profitability.

CMG has played a vital role in many high-profile projects, including producing critical components for ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic. Its ability to respond quickly to urgent demand highlighted both its technical capability and strong sense of responsibility to the wider community.

Today, CMG Technologies operates as part of the global INDO-MIM Group, the world’s largest MIM specialist. Yet, despite its international reach, the company maintains a strong sense of identity and family values.

“One thing that has never changed is our company culture,” said Garrett. “We are a close-knit team that supports one another. We’ve shared many highs and lows, including the heartbreaking loss of my father in 2018, and we remain dedicated to continuing his legacy. CMG Technologies is advancing, and we’re excited about what the future holds.”

As the company celebrates half a century of innovation, it stands as a proud example of how British manufacturing can adapt, grow, and thrive in a changing world.
