General Motors has legally registered with the FIA as a Formula 1 power unit manufacturer beginning with the 2028 season. “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” remarked General Motors President Mark Reuss. “We’re confident that with our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series and establish Andretti Cadillac as a true works team.” We will compete with the best, at the greatest levels, with passion and honesty, helping to enhance the sport for race fans all around the world.” The FIA authorised Andretti Cadillac’s Expression of Interest application to race in the FIA Formula One World Championship last month.

GM’s prototype technology development and testing are already underway. Developing an F1 power unit will expand GM’s experience in electrification, hybrid technologies, sustainable fuels, high-efficiency internal combustion engines, innovative controls, and software systems. For more than a century, racing has served as a testing ground for GM and Cadillac to transfer knowledge and technology from race cars to production automobiles. Cadillac’s V-Series performance portfolio, which is commemorating its 20th anniversary, effortlessly integrates track-to-road learnings. Cadillac just created the 5.5L DOHC V-8 powertrain that will be used in the 2023 IMSA and WEC seasons. Cadillac Racing won the inaugural IMSA Grand Touring Prototype championship and a podium result at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with this powertrain.
