The uncertainty caused by Brexit certainly hasn’t dampened the appetite of automotive heavyweight Toyota, as it plans further expansion. The company has now announced that it plans to extend its dispatch yard. With planning consent now approved, the extension will create an additional 90 manufacturing jobs.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK has seen its proposal to extend the Burnaston site approved and this new facility will house an extra 3,500 vehicles. Approved by South Derbyshire District Council, the cars would be based at the site until they are exported to dealerships throughout Europe.

A council planning officer in their report to the council said: “One of the most important considerations in regards to the proposals is the economic benefits that arise from the development.” The news follows the announcement in March that Toyota UK would invest £240m to upgrade the site that currently employs in the region of 2,500 staff.
